THE PNG Fire Service has been given 20 sets of personnel protective equipment for firefighters.
According to deputy chief fire officer operation Lua Roa, each set costs about K8000.
“A firefighter needs to be fully protected from heat and flames when responding to fire,” Roa said.
“A firefighter must be covered from head to toe. One of our goals is to fully equip firefighters around the country.
“Our operational personnel’s safety is important and fighting fire is a hazardous and dangerous occupation.”
Roa said the chief fire officer and the fire service were committed to equipping firefighters.
Roa on behalf of Chief Fire Officer Bill Roo thanked Global Product Sourcing and Distribution Limited for delivering the new equipment.
Managing director Joe Nete said they brought the equipment from overseas.
“Last year, we delivered and equipped fire officers engaged during Apec,” he said.
