THE Police College at Bomana, National Capital District, is changing its training programme to focus more on investigations, how to prepare files for the court, prosecution techniques and public safety.
New police recruits will undergo the new training programme over six months.
Chief Instructor Erwin Maritua said during the opening of training for trainers with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Port Moresby.
“We have seen public complaints on police brutality increasing and we are trying our best to teach these courses and minimise negativity,” he said.
“Police officers have to deal with issues in a more professional manner.”
He said they wanted to change the way people viewed police officers.
The first batch of recruits will graduate on March 29.
