PNG Hockey Federation (PNGHF) expressed their gratitude towards their corporate sponsors for the recent Oceania Pacific Cup hockey challenge in Suva, Fiji this month.
Accepting the Certificate of Achievement of Pablo Negre Trophy from the International Hockey Federation (IHF), PNGHF president Kaluwin Potuan said the federation would not have achieved it if there was no corporate support.
If not for two local companies, Just Hockey PNG and ProValuer, he said PNG hockey would not have come this far.
He acknowledged the support of the national government through the National Gaming Control Board for the past two years.
Potuan said SP Brewery was one of the supporters of national team travelling overseas. Lae Biscuit Company, Coca-Cola Amatil, Airways Group of Companies and PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee also assisted.
He said corporate backing was vital in achieving players’ dreams.
Potuan was among two other technical officials Thomas Kahai and umpire Peter Samol who officiated at the event.
He said it was part of the 2015 Pacific Games requisite that technical officials for the Games be ticketed either through the regional or world governing body.
