PNG leaders have a lot to learn

Letters, Normal

THE Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama recently resigned because his popularity dropped from 70% to 20% over his failure to remove a US army base.
Germany’s president Horot Koehler resigned early this month following public criticisms of the remarks he made about German military.
These leaders did not sweep the criticisms under the carpet nor did they call their subjects longlongs or give them a tongue lashing.
They did not tarnish the reputation of the high offices they occupied.
They were not selfish, arrogant and stubborn.
They put honour and pride before self-interests.
Why can’t our leaders emulate these people?
Why do they continue to cling on when their integrity has been called into question, thus compromising the offices they occupy?
