A Papua New Guinea man has been arrested in Indonesia for the second time for allegedly smuggling drug after he was released from Doyo Narcotics Prison in Jayapura a year ago, Jayapura City police chief Gustav Urbinas said.
Urbinas told Jayapura City police media that the 31-year-old man believed to be from Eastern Highlands was a second time offender who was released from Doyo Narcotic Prison in June last year after serving four years for drug smuggling.
He was arrested near the PNG-Indonesian border last Wednesday just three days after 15 Papua New Guinea prisoners escaped from Doyo prison.
Urbinas said since he was a second time offender he was expected to face a sentence of 20 years in prison if found guilty.
