THE BSP men’s national snooker titles are set to cue off today in Port Moresby today.
PNGBSA president Peter Fong said the number of entries was more than last year.
“On Monday night when nominations closed, we had 53 for B grade and 42 for A grade,” Fong said.
He said the committee met last night to finalise the B grade nominations.
“It’s more than what we originally planned for so this has really given us a surprise,” Fong said.
He said players were coming from Alotau, Lae, Lihir, Kavieng, Kokopo and Manus.
Fong said the B grade minor titles would begin in the evening after a briefing which all players were required to attend and register before 5.30pm at the Port Moresby Country.
“Every player including the A graders must attend the briefing where registrations and draws will be completed for the minor titles and the main titles which start next week,” Fong said.
He said the B grade round robin and top 24 will be played from today through to Saturday evening.
“The semi finals and final will be held on Sunday at the South Pacific Motor Sports club followed by a presentation at 7pm.”
Fong said those who did not make the top 24 would be drawn to play in the plate division.
He thanked BSP for their ninth consecutive year of sponsorship and extended PNGBSA’s appreciation to Budget Real Estate, Grafitti Signs, Imprint Copy Centre, Pacific MMI Insurance, UMW Niugini, Bestcar, Happy Ice, Lamana Hotel, Boina Investment, Evandar and Grant Agencies Ltd for their support.
“I also thank the Aviat, Car and Port Moresby Country clubs for making their premises available for the biggest snooker event so far,” Fong said.
