PNG move on from Nao injury

The Papua New Guinea Barramundis touched down in Fiji on Monday ahead of the International Cricket Council World T20 East-Asia-Pacific Qualifier in Suva.
There was reason to be in good spirits despite Alei Nao sustaining a long-term injury on Friday.
Coach Joe Dawes said he was hopeful Nao would make a comeback.
“Very disappointing for Alei, as he is a big part of our cricket,” Dawes said.
“But hope he bounces back well.
“Luckily, we are well covered in the bowling ranks.
“His injury does give others an opportunity to shine here.”
Simon Atai is replacing the Nao in what could be his Barramundis debut, if he gets the nod.
However, Atai would need to work hard to make the batting line-up, which shone in Australia.
A standout performance came from captain Assad Vala, who scored a whopping 134 in a high-scoring encounter that saw the Barramundis smash 258 runs in a T20 match.
“All our batsmen got a score at some stage during the practise games,” Dawes said.
“Charles (Amini Jr) and Sese (Bau) scored half centuries.
“Lega Siaka also came close to scoring one.
“It has been a good tour. The camp went well and we got what we wanted out of the games, with our top order getting a good hit out.”
The team is now training hard for the tournament in Fiji.
“Things are going well. Our first training session in Fiji this morning (yesterday) was of a high quality,” Dawes said.
“The team can’t wait to crack on with the qualifiers.”
The Barramundis start their campaign with a double-header on Saturday against Samoa and hosts Fiji.
