Papua New Guinea Volleyball Association president Kila Dick, pictured, has announced the dates of the national volleyball championships for the open indoor, beach and the U21.
Dick said the National Open Indoor Volleyball Championships would be staged at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre from Sept 14-17.
This would be followed by the National Beach Volleyball Championships at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby from Sept 18-19.
Dick said the National U21 Volleyball Championships would be staged in Lae from Sept 21-23.
“We have decided to host the U21 championships in Lae, Morobe, to ease the financial burdens on teams there, especially those from Huon Gulf,” Dick said.
“Port Moresby ran the U21 championships for the last couple of years and this time, their teams will have to travel to Lae for the tournament.”
Dick thanked Prima Small Goods for backing the U21 championships.
Prima Small Goods’ Allan Anis said the company had been a sponsor of the Huon Gulf Volleyball Association over the last ten years.
He said Prima Small Goods was excited to go a step further to sponsor the entire championships.
Dick assured supporters that they would enjoy a feast of volleyball.
He said preparations for the championships were underway and he was looking forward to the three tournaments.
Dick heaped praise on the Oil Search Foundation for their help and thanked the National Capital District Commission for the supporting the sport despite the difficult financial situation the country was facing.
