The National – Thursday, December 2, 2010

POLITICIANS go overseas for specialist medical care and Papua New Guineans who can afford to buy insurance go overseas to see specialists.
Meanwhile, ordinary Papua New Guineans cannot even get a visa to go to Australia to seek treatment.
Ordinary Papua New Guineans cannot afford to go to Singapore or other countries to seek medical care.
Hundreds of thousands of Papua New Guineans die every year from complications of infectious diseases, cancers and lifestyle diseases.
The critics should stop their attacks on the proposed Pacific Medical Centre and let the government build the hospital.
We must plan for the future.
The government must work in partnership with the private sector to establish a national health insurance scheme.
We must move forward and stop dwelling on the past.
