PNG to compete at rugby c’ship

PAPUA New Guinea are among four national teams that will converge in Lautoka, Fiji, next month to contest the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship.
PNG, Samoa, Tonga and the hosts will play in a round-robin tournament on Nov 16, 20 and 24 in pursuit of regional supremacy, and the opportunity to showcase and promote international women’s rugby in Fiji and the Pacific.
“We are entering some exciting times for women’s rugby in the region, and we are delighted to have four teams from within the Pacific take part in this year’s Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship,” Oceania Rugby general manager Bruce Cook said.
PNG, the runners-up from 2016, will open the championship against Samoa, while defending champions Fiji will face off with Tonga in the final match of round one on Nov 16.
Fixtures: Fri, Nov 16 – PNG v Samoa (1pm), Fiji v Tonga (3pm); Tues, Nov 20 – Samoa v Tonga (1pm), Fiji v PNG (3pm); Sat, Nov 24 – PNG v Tonga, (1.00pm), Fiji v Samoa (3pm).
All matches will be played at Churchill Park, Lautoka.
