A Group of coaches travelling to Australia tomorrow for a one-week study tour have been warned not to see it as a “shopping trip”.
The tour is organised by the High Performance Training Centre (HPTC).
HPTC assistant director Cornelius Papau said the group would visit schools and learn coaching skills on the Gold Coast.
“The coaches return to PNG on Nov 7,” he said.
“A few athletes will attend a leadership summit on the Gold Coast from Nov 8-13.
“All these preparations lead up to the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.”
Papau encouraged the coaches to learn as much as possible while being ambassadors of the country.
“Do not take this tour as a shopping trip,” he said.
“There will be professional coaches and trainers giving you directions as to how you should better yourselves.
“These tips from can be something essential for you to build your coaching career.
“Learn from them and be better coaches.
PNG Sports Foundation executive service director Malaburgh Imeha, who presented the group with uniforms and travel documents, congratulated the coaches.
“You are the lucky ones out of many others who wish to travel to Australia and other countries to improve their coaching skills,” Imeha told the coaches.
He encouraged the coaches and the athletes to give their best during the tour and the summit respectively.
“Go there, learn new skills and bring them back to PNG to teach the upcoming coaches in various sports,” Imeha said.
