PNG to undergo high-performance training

PAPUA New Guinea coach John Pangkatana says the national women’s 15s rugby team (Cassowaries) will undergo high-performance training for six months before the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship in November.
Pangkatana said the Cassowaries had not undergone high-performance training yet.
“We need more of such trainings to keep them fit in order to be on par with other teams competing in the championship,” he said.
“We will be pulling all our players together for strength and fitness training as we prepare for the championship.
“Potentially, we have the national championships for the first time so we could get more players to join us.”
Pangkatana told The National that their defensive effort was good against Tonga on Sunday. “It was not like last year’s performance, they improved a lot in many areas but there was always the size issue,” he said.
“The lines that we ran and the commitment in our tackles to put the big Tongans down was commendable.”
He said the Tongans used their size to claim a 36-24 win over the Cassowaries.

  • This Rugby system in PNG is a FAIL SYSTEM, for over a decade now we haven’t improve on our world rankings and it’s a waste of millions of tax payers money invested time and time on a fail particular sporting code. Same people running the show year in year out…Rugby PNG is just not going anywhere…look at the League’s progress and try to come up with a workable system that suits and will bring results and growth for the better of PNG Rugby.
