PNG trip ‘most successful’

National, Normal

A VISITING international mission here to moot the concept to develop a national strategy for development statistics described its visit as “the most successful trip,” compared with similar trips elsewhere worldwide.
Tomas Africa and Christopher Duhamel from Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st century secretariat (PARIS 21) based in France were impressed with the discussions they had with the Government departments, State agencies and development partners.
In a debriefing last Friday to representatives from Government departments, agencies, and development partners, it was recommended  to develop a national strategy for development statistics as it was the way forward for this country to have a coordinated and effective national statistical system.
PARIS 21 was established in 1999 jointly by major development partners such as World Bank, International Monetary Fund and European Union.
