THE First Battalion Royal Pacific Islands Regiment (1RPIR) is looking forward to more support through the defence corporation programme, an official says.
1RPIR commanding officer Lt-Col Heta Nomba said this yesterday in Port Moresby following the opening of a new boatshed.
Two small boats and outboard motors were also gifted to the battalion.
“Under the defence corporation programme, we have received a lot of assistance through projects that have benefitted our training and operations,” he said.
“One of them is the new boatshed project.”
Nomba said the programme was between Australia and PNG.
He said the programme had since provided more support towards the PNG Defence Force, the battalion and the, Department of Defence.
“We’re hoping to see more projects like this towards the end of the year through this DCP programme,” he added.
DCP liaison officer Captain Tom Folley also said that the boatshed opening was part of an ongoing capability maintenance project as part of the programme.
