MEMBERS of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) in Enga took part in a major cleanathon programme at Wabag town over the weekend.
The cleanathon came under the PNGDF project Santa Festive Season Security and also a part of the PNGDF community partnership programme.
The troops that took part were from the Charlie Company 2RPIR based at Moem Barracks in Wewak.
PNGDF Charlie Company commanding officer Maj Nicholas Embia said it was part of being with the community to help educate them to keep a safe and peaceful society.
He said such cleanathon programme was ongoing in Porgera, Wabag and Kompiam which showed that people’s mindsets were changing.
Maj Embia said the cleanathon over the weekend started at Aipus to Wabag town and then into the main streets. He said the public also participated.
Maj Embia said many people were yet to learn from important things such as creating a clean environment.
“Such little things will make a difference in their lives and we the members of the PNGDF have taken the lead to work along with the community,” he said.
“Once people come to realise their responsibilities, they will take ownership of the town and the community that they come from.”
