THE Defence Force recruitment office has been closed pending an investigation into the processes used which allegedly involved bribery and forgery, according to Chief of Staff Captain Philip Polewara.
Polewara said they were investigating allegations of bribery and the forging of certificates during the recruiting process.
“It’s not about regionalism (Highlands region) but the alleged corrupt practices with the recruitment process,” he said.
“We will work with the Education Department’s measurement unit and other government departments to check.
“Those recruits who have met the requirements will stay.
“Those who don’t including those who paid bribes to get in and or used forged certificates will be immediately removed from the training squad.
“We will also investigate the recruitment officers.
“Those found guilty of asking for, and/or accepting bribes will not only face the military court but will also be referred to police to be charged.
“We cannot allow this to continue.
“For the sake of this country and our children, we must clean out corruption in the Defence Force.”
Polewara called on people to come forward with any information they may have on the issue.

  • A little too late Mr Polewara. That should be the first thing to check before recruiting idiots from the streets. How much taxpayers money spent on recruiting and training and just now you want to check their certificates? What kind of a incompetency is this?

  • That is a good stance PNGDF, do all the necessary checks and i wont be surprised you will find alot of fake certificate holders.
But what do you do after your execise? do the department hand this information relevant authorities like police?
And what about the recruiting officers, will they be removed from the force?
