THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has appointed Percy Mataio, pictured, as national Under-23 men’s head coach and Jack Jonathan as his assistant.
Both men will be assisted by team manager Gordon Manub, according to a PNGFA statement announcing the appointment of national head coaches in various divisions.
Anthony Pakakota, who coaches Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League side Eastern Stars, has been appointed as the U19 men’s boss.
His assistant is former Hekari United star Erickson Komeng, with Joseph Ame picked as team manager.
Others appointees are Samson Steven (U16 men’s head coach), Mathew Witu (assistant), Tinge Emuka (team manager), (U19 women’s head coach) Rachael Wadunah, (assistant) Bernadine Giobun, Carmellina Mwadeda (team manager), (U16 women’s head coach) Susan Watpore, (assistant) Tracy Kig/Edna Thomas and (team manager) Maggie Taligatus.
“Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) coaching accreditation was a key criteria behind the selections as it is a requirement for coaches to possess OFC coaching certificates in order to participate at OFC and Fifa-sanctioned tournaments,” the statement said.
“The selections were made from applications received in response to the positions advertised in the media earlier this year.
“All applications underwent proper selection process and endorsement by the mandated PNGFA executive committee.”
PNGFA technical manager Paul Isorua said technical Ddvelopment officers Harrison Kamake and Margaret Aka would work closely with the coaches.
Train-on squads for the national teams are expected to be made soon followed by the start of training programmes in preparation for upcoming OFC and Fifa-sanctioned tournaments.
