PS Rutz pulled off a 4-3 win over Momase to maintain top spot in the Port Moresby Soccer Association men’s premier competition.
The round-nine thriller on Saturday saw a heated battle between the two sides, with Momase taking the lead through goals from Jason Wesley and Amon Meki.
A goal from PS Rutz’s Stanley Tumun narrowed the margin before halftime with the scores set at 1-2.
Momase, using Hekari and Papua New Guinea Kapuls midfielder Patrick Aisa, threatened in attack but were outclassed after Tumum registered a second goal to level the scores.
A lack of defensive pressure saw PS Rutz forwards asking questions of Momase goalkeeper Paul Sevese on numerous occasions before they found the net through Michael Shaun.
With the likes of Aisa and Allan Kororo in attack, Momase were able to turn the match around via a Kapret TIngut header to level the scores (3-3).
However, David Mosim had the last laugh after a brilliant run before he squeezed in the final goal of the game to give PS Rutz the win.
The final match on Saturday saw University edge out Maclaren 2-1.
An own goal from Maclaren in the opening minutes saw University, who were led by the Komolong brothers (Alwin and Felix), take the lead.
A young Maclaren outfit were able to recover with a goal through Darian Elipas but their luck ran short after a University’s Gregory Togubai snatched the winner.
