PAPUA New Guinea Football Association president John Kapi Natto has paid tribute on behalf of the country’s soccer fraternity to the family of Bulolo MP and Deputy Prime Minister, the late Sam Basil.
Basil died in an accident along the Wau-Bulolo Highway last Wednesday.
Kapi Natto said Basil’s passing was a big loss to the people of Buang, Bulolo, Morobe and the rest of the country.
“Basil was a vibrant leader who was worthy of being prime minister,” he said.
“It was very sad to see him pass away.
“I send my condolences to the late Sam Basil’s family and the people of Wau-Bulolo during this time of mourning.
“Basil was a supporter of football.
“At one point, he supported Bulolo football club to compete in the National Soccer League.
“He was passionate about football — something that we will sorely miss.
“Whoever the leader (Bulolo MP) that comes in the future, they need to spend time in supporting young people.”
