PNGFA set to run U17 tourneys for boys, girls

THE Papua New Guinea Football Association will stage its under-17 boys’ and girls’ national youth tournaments on June 24 and July 6.
PNGFA said it was proud to stage the events with the aim of involving players at youth level every year, giving them a chance to represent the country at international events.
“The PNGFA in its effort to identify and improve talents in the country is reviving the youth championships,” the statement said.
“Sport has the power to have a positive impact on youth and that is why investment in sport and youth development is an important pillar of PNGFA this year.” PNGFA competition manager Simon Koima called for expressions of interest from associations interested in hosting the tournaments. The requirements for host rights are:

  • Have U17 boys’ and girls’ teams;
  • Have two playing fields;
  • Paid the annual membership fee to PNGFA;
  • Have public amenities like toilets and water and;
  • Secured venue for revenue raising. Applications close on May 16.
