THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) is undertaking a stadium-fencing project in Port Moresby after receiving US$93,000 (K321,800) from Fifa, the global governing body for soccer.
The sport’s national governing body said in a statement that it was an achievement, given PNGFA’s ongoing financial constraints since 2018.
PNGFA president John Kapi Natto said they had finally put their administration and finances on the road to good governance which had prompted Fifa to work towards lifting its financial sanctions. “It has taken almost one year under our leadership to receive some good news from Fifa,” he said.
“As PNGFA gets ready for its ordinary congress on Saturday, Fifa has come good by committing its first assistance of US$93,000 to fund a major fencing project at the PNG Football Stadium.
“The scope of works includes internal perimeter palisade fence line, field perimeter chainmesh fence barriers and competition zone barriers built to meet international football requirements.
“A palisade fence will also be built to safeguard vital installations such as the irrigation water tanks and pump area, standby generator set and light tower switch boxes around the field
“Vehicle and pedestrian gates will also be built for use by spectators and service providers.”
Kapi Natto said he was happy that this was the start of more projects via funding from Fifa.
He said projects being considered were the completion of New Guinea Islands Football Education Centre in Kimbe and Lae Football Academy.
Kapi Natto said plans were in place to build Highlands Football Education Centre and an artificial turf for the academy.
He said PNGFA was also planning to help member associations with field development.
“These are some of the projects that will be highlighted and presented to all member association executives during the congress as part of the internal process before further deliberations with Fifa,” Kapi Natto said.
