PNGFA to roll out coaching courses across the country

A HOST of member association grassroots and youth coaching courses will be rolled out for the remainder of the year in seven locations across the country, according to the Papua New Guinea Football Association.
Six editions of each course will be on offer before the end of the year with the goal of equipping coaches with the necessary tools to assist with programmes which the association aims to include next year.
The programmes include football festivals, age-group competitions (football, futsal and beach soccer) and national academies.
There is also a focus on creating awareness around the importance of coaching in a player’s formative years.
Association coach educators Margaret Aka and Harrison Kamake will facilitate the courses with assistance from staff.
Association technical director Paul Isorua, who plans and oversees course logistics, said quality coaches were key to player development from a young age.
“Many coaches want to coach senior football at the local, regional and national levels, but these workshops highlight that grassroots and youth football are a priority,” he said.
“From past courses, coaches have expressed their commitment to working with children in different age groups and this indicates to us that our objective is clear.”
Seven courses will take place this month while November has five.
“We’ve re-focused and re-created a practical and workable pathway for coaches,” Isorua said. – OFC
