PNGHPS to continue programme

PAPUA New Guinea High Performance Sport (PNGHPS), under the PNG Sports Foundation, will be continuing its talent identification and pathways programme this year.
High performance manager Cornelius Papau told The National that the programme would run in Port Moresby with the aim of identifying and developing sporting talents in schools.
“We are planning to roll out our talent pathway programme in schools in the National Capital District,” he said.
“We will also be running a coach education workshop and carrying out awareness in schools.
“The high performance team will be focusing on students from universities and other tertiary institutions to participate in multi-sporting activities during the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6.”
Apart from its school engagement programmes, Papau said the priority in 2021 would be assisting Team Papua New Guinea athletes prepare for their qualifiers for this year’s Olympic Games in Japan.
