WNSL finals moved back

THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has deferred the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) finals by a week to mourn the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.
The semifinals and grand final were initially scheduled for Saturday and March 20 respectively, however, they had been moved to a new date.
Conference winners Poro and Genesis will face runners-up Hekari United and Sepik in next Saturday’s semifinals at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae.
The winners will meet in the grand final at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby on March 27.
PNGFA competitions director Paul Isorua issued a notice to all WNSL club managements and franchise owners that the deferral was in respect of Sir Michael’s state funeral on Friday.
This extends the preparation and training for the four finalists by a week before meeting in Lae for the semifinals.
Coach Percy Mataio’s Genesis will be looking to rebound from their 1-3 loss to Hekari when they face in-form Sepik, who head into the finals off the back of two-straight wins.
Poro will be looking to move on from their first loss with a win over coach Eric Komeng’s Hekari, who will be eager to follow Sepik’s blueprint.
