PNGRFL congratulates Lae Tigers

THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has congratulated the Lae Tigers on retaining the Melanesian Cup in Fiji over the weekend.
The Digicel Cup premiers defeated Fiji champions Ravoravo Rabbitohs 32-8 at Lautoka’s Churchill Park on Saturday afternoon.
“On behalf of the board, management, staff and our rugby league family in PNG, congratulations to coach Stanley Tepend and his team for winning the Melanesian Cup,” chairman Sandis Tsaka said.
Tsaka also expressed gratitude to franchise owner Ian Chow and the management and staff of Lae Biscuit Company for their support of the Tigers.
“Lae Biscuit Company has been and continues to be a staunch and valued partner of the Morobe franchise in our premier competition.
“The company together with all support sponsors, we sincerely thank them for their support to PNG rugby league.”
The Melanesian Cup is played between the Digicel Cup champions and Fiji Vodafone Cup premiers since 2016 and is sanctioned by International Rugby League.
The Agmark Rabaul Gurias won the inaugural Cup in 2016 in Port Moresby. The Tigers won it in Fiji in 2017 and in Port Moresby in 2018.
