THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has hailed its Brisbane Broncos partnership as a platform to promote and develop the women’s game in the country.
The Broncos legends team, boasting the likes of Scott Prince and Julian O’Neill, take on their PNG Kumuls counterparts at 1.30pm before Brisbane women face the Orchids at 4pm at the National Football Stadium (NFS) in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Broncos chief strategy officer Terry Reader said in a press conference last week that their legends team were excited about the trip to the nation’s capital.
“This marks a historical moment as the Broncos legends rub shoulders with some Kumuls greats,” he said.
The Broncos will use the Orchids match as a trial before they begin their title defence in the National Rugby League women’s competition. Last year, the Orchids played the Broncos at the Suncorp Stadium.
PNGRFL said it was promoting gender equality and social messages through the Orchids brand as a way forward for the women’s game
