The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union (PNGRFU) yesterday presented four bags of equipment to the St Joseph’s International Catholic College to support its development programme.
PNGRFU secretary Micheal Uari said the programme had been running for the past few years. “PNGRFU is showing its commitment to make sure the programme continues,” Uari said.
The bags contained, rugby balls, T-shirts, cones and other equipment to assist the school with its programme.
Uari said the programme had benefitted many students, with former Joey Chelsea Garesa now a Palai.
Principal George Swamy was pleased with the presentation, saying it was important for students to participate in sports too.
“The students enjoy it (programme) so much, there is always team spirit and it is an avenue where talent and skills in the sport are developed.” PNGRFU development manager Sailosi Druma said the programme would seek to expand to centres such as Daru, Goroka, Madang and Lae.
Druma said five schools in Bogia, Madang, would have their rugby festivals in September and such equipment would also be presented to them.
