The Chariots basketball club and the Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation have joined forces to support advocacy and fundraising for education and awareness on the diseases.
The Chariots compete in the Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball League.
Yesterday, both organisations signed a memorandum of understanding which will see the club supporting the cause by playing their home games in the foundation’s colours.
Foundation program coordinator Priscillar Napoleon said the Chariots would also participate in their activities as part of their support for the next two years.
In a statement, club president John Vere said he was excited about the partnership.
“Cancer affects all of us. It can be a close family member of someone you know, so let’s all work together to fight cancer,” Vere said.
Napoleon said: “We are grateful for the Chariots in joining the fight against cancer in PNG.
“The partnership will allow the foundation to not only reach out to more people but to do awareness on the importance of cancer prevention.”
She said the partnership would help raise funds to continue the work of the foundation.
Napoleon said the partnership also demonstrated the importance of eating healthy and exercising regularly to help reduce the risk of cancer.
