Committee to seek approval for spectators amid new Covid-19 measures

THE Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation’s (PNGSF) pandemic management committee says it will be writing to the national pandemic controller seeking exemption for the number of people allowed to gather at sporting venues.
Committee chairman Dr Kapua Kapua said the measures on no spectators and gatherings remained in place with sports expected to adhere to the orders.
“The committee will be writing to the controller to seek exemption in gathering numbers for sports and events that utilise PNGSF venues in a controlled environment,” he said.
“However, in the meantime, please adhere to the current measures.
“The timeframe for the current measures is not apparent and will be until further notice.
“However, please follow your approved Covid-19 protocols and be vigilant with individual hygiene measures to keep our community safe.
“Due to the major surge in the National Capital District, sports in the nation’s capital are required to comply for inspection of their playing venues to ensure that they are Covid-safe and that the submitted sport’s protocols are adhered to.
“Other sporting centres around the country will also be inspected in due course.
“Federations must make sure their associations conform to their submitted Covid-safe protocols and adhere to the current pandemic measures and Niupela Pasin.
“Non-compliance will be reported to the controller and immediately shut down.”
Kapua said no other affiliated sport would run unless they had approval from PNGSF.
“Federations that have not sought approval and are running competitions will be reported to the controller,” he said.
PNGSF said federations must note that if a province or centre had been locked down by its provincial authority then associations within that constituency were required to adhere to that.
