THE Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation (PNGSF) are eager to compete in the Public Servants Netball Competition after a three-year hiatus, says an official.
PNGSF club secretary Hannah Singut said they aim to revive their winning form when competition kicks off this weekend at the Rita Flynn outdoor courts.
“Our aim is to retain our winning form from the previous season and hopefully win the premiership in both division seven and premier this year,” Singut told The National yesterday.
“This is also a great opportunity and platform to expand our network with our fellow female public servants.”
Singut said PNGSF had registered two teams that would compete in the premier and division seven and look forward to meeting their rival on the courts on Saturdays.
She said the premier side had a solid lineup boosted by former PNG Pepes Emily Maha, Raka Nope and Tau Galewa.
“We have yet to confirm the full team,” she said.
“We will be missing players in the likes of Evaneliah Aua (former Pepes goal shooter), Rebecca Gini, Carolyn Pirika and Wendy Tsiamalili this season.
“But we have a couple of members with elite athlete background from Pepes and other sporting codes so we’re confident on our new look team.”
Singut said the two trials organised by the Public Servants Netball Competition helped them work out their combinations for the season.
“We’re returning from a long break and therefore we have used the two weeks to confirm our numbers and also find the right combinations to work with,’ she said.
“Our focus for now is with the new composition in both teams. We will also see where we stand against the other teams after this weekend’s game and adjust accordingly.”
