THE Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation (PNGSF) has given clearance for PNG Swimming Incorporated (PNGSI) to use the pools at the Taurama Aquatic Centre in Port Moresby, says an official.
President Elizabeth Wells told The National yesterday that the Boroko Amateur Swimming Club had been given the nod last week but with strict Covid-19 measures.
The venue and other PNGSF-managed facilities were shut down earlier this year due to the nationwide state of emergency over the Covid-19 pandemic.
Wells said the Theodist National Championships would be held at the Taurama Aquatic Center in October.
“The Lae Amateur Swimming Club is yet to resume training due to the unavailability of a competition pool,” she said.
“Clubs are beginning to return to training now.
“Guidelines and procedures are in place for the safety of club members.
“The Boroko Amateur Swimming Club has established some basic Covid-19 regulations for all swimmers, parents, guardians and others.
“All is going to plan. It is hoped that the championships will be held from Oct 2-4.”
Meanwhile, Wells said Australian-based PNG swimmers had returned to training.
“They returned to training this month, as did our Fina scholarship holder Judith Meauri in Phuket, Thailand.”
