A TOTAL of 500 portions of land have already been secured by the Papua New Guinea Teaching Association (PNGTA) for its members at the Duran Farm housing estate in 8-Mile, Port Moresby.
PNGTA president Aita Sanangkepe said this when giving an update on the teachers’ housing scheme in the country.
He said talks between the association and the National Housing Commission had resulted in the portions of land being made available.
He said the 500 allotments would be offered to teachers who were financial PNGTA members with the condition that these individuals did not have outstanding loans (debt free), presented three current pay slips and superannuation statements.
Sanangkepe said the houses ranged from K250,000 to K400,000 and priority would be given to PNGTA members in Port Moresby.
He said teachers who had served for 30 years or more were guaranteed a home to buy from the scheme using their Public Officers’ Superannuation Fund (POSF) as long as they provided the required documents.
Sanangkepe added that the bank had agreed to give a loan at four per cent over 40 years to repay. He said the initiative was to give teachers a chance to own homes.
He said the housing scheme would be extended to other centres as well.
He urged members to start planning as land had already been secured.
