Police arrest five robbery suspects in Port Moresby

FIVE suspects of a robbery involving a car in Port Moresby were arrested by police last week.
Police said the suspects were known to the victim as they were living in the same neighbourhood in Gerehu.
A statement on the police NCD/Central divisional command on Facebook said the suspects robbed the man of his Mazda BT 50 double cab.
Police later spotted the stolen vehicle at the roundabout near the Unagi Oval and gave chase towards the Boroko area.
“Petrified at the sight of police, a suspect sitting in the back is said to have jumped overboard before the chase picked up momentum and proceeded towards Boroko,” police said.
“The stolen car rammed into a metal rail at Tabari Place and police arrested three suspects as they scrambled out of the wreckage.
“Another two fled towards Murray Barracks but they were pursued and arrested by members of Fox Unit 103.
Policemen involved in the chase said the pair were trying to board a cab when they were nabbed.
All five suspects were later identified by the victim.
NCD/Central commander Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Wagambie Jr commended the police units, especially the SSD mobile squad and Fox 102 for their quick response
He said the suspects were likely to use the stolen vehicle to commit other crimes such as side-parking and robbing other motorists.
