Police in Kokopo, East New Britain, have arrested and charged a 65-year-old man from Duke of York Island with persistent sexual penetration.
Police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali said the man from Mioko-Virian ward in the Duke of York Islands local level government was arrested and charged with persistent sexual penetration.
He was detained at the Kokopo Police Station over the weekend.
He is expected to appear before the Kokopo District Court this week.
Chief Insp Tabali said the alleged incident occurred between last Dec 23 and March 6, at Virian-Mioko ward when the suspect allegedly lured an 11-year-old girl and raped her at three different locations.
Chief Insp Tabali said the first incident took place last Dec 23 when the victim went to the suspect’s house to buy petrol.
The suspect allegedly grabbed her and forced her to the floor and raped her.
“After what he did to the victim, he gave her K10 and told the victim not to report the incident to anyone,” Chief Insp Tabali said.
