POLICE in Madang have finally arrested a man wanted for questioning over the death of a villager 12 months ago.
Police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said they had been looking for Ori Lalek from Ambenob who had gone into hiding since the incident in November last year at Ohuru village.
Police alleged that Lalek had used a knife to kill 24-year-old Barr Memban.
Supt Rubiang said they suspected it had to do with a land dispute.
Police were looking for other suspects involved in the death of Memban.
“Memban’s mother has been seeking police assistance to apprehend the suspects for almost a year,” he said.
“The incident happened on Nov 4, 2019 at Ohuru village where the deceased was attacked by a group of youths from the same area.”
Meanwhile in New Ireland, a vehicle Governor Sir Julius Chan was traveling in was involved in a fatal accident on Sunday.
A statement from his office yesterday said Sir Julius was a passenger in the Government vehicle driven by a person with over 35 years of driving experience.
The accident occurred along the Lokon road, Namatanai at around 6.10pm when a man allegedly under the influence threw himself at the moving vehicle.
