Police arrest nine murder suspects

POLICE in Manus arrested nine suspects in relation to the murder of a 40-year-old man over a land dispute.
The deceased was identified as Pokot Daniel, a father of two from Bulihan village in the Penabu Nalisopat local level government area.
Police commander Chief Insp David Yapu said there was a fight between Daniel and the suspects in Bulihan on June 13 at around 4pm. He said the suspects were armed with stones and pieces of timber and attacked Daniel.
“Daniel was hit on his head and other parts of his body and sustained serious injuries to his head as a result,” he said.
Chief Insp Yapu said Daniel was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
“Due to the tense situation at the village, I dispatched a team of officers to the area on Sunday and they have arrested the nine suspects who are now in custody for further investigations,” he said.
Chief Insp Yapu said he met Daniel’s relatives at the station and spoke to them.
