AN ELEMENTARY schoolteacher, aged 27, and a 25-year-old man from the Rapatona LLG area have been arrested and charged with being in possession of marijuana in Manus.
They were scheduled to appear in court yesterday.
Manus police commander Chief Insp David Yapu said police acted on a tip-off and arrested the two from Popeu village over the weekend.
Insp Yapu said: “The drug was transported by boat from Madang with betel nuts for sale in Lorengau town.
“Some of the drug was already transported to Lorengau town.
“The street value of the drugs could go up to K7,000.
“For an educated person and a schoolteacher to be involved in such illegal activities is unprofessional and it has tarnished his reputation as a schoolteacher in the community.”
Chief Insp Yapu said the weekend was reported to be quiet in Manus.
