A SUSPECT was arrested about 10 minutes after four raskols robbed The National office in Waigani, Port Moresby, on Friday morning.
National Capital District/Central Commander Asst Comm of Police (ACP) Anthony Wagambie Jr said three suspects were still at large, with police tracing their movements. No one was injured in the armed robbery although a shot was fired .
However, some staff lost personal belongings.
No cash was taken.
Police also recovered a vehicle that was hired last week and fitted with a hoax number plate and used in the robbery of the home of one of the suspects.
Police also recovered a uniform belonging to the Department of Commerce and Industry.
The home owner’s son is alleged to be part of the gang on the run.
ACP Wagambie confirmed the arrest of the suspect who was detained at the Boroko police station.
“The man is alleged to have just been released from Bomana three weeks ago,” he said.
“He is now assisting police with their investigations.
“Three men entered The National’s premises in a sedan, dressed as Government workers.
“They attempted an armed robbery at the office a shot was fired within the building.
“Police were alerted, with description of the vehicle used, and immediately responded,” ACP Wagambie Jr said.
The vehicle was abandoned at Hibiscus Street, Hohola.
