Police arrest suspect in student’s stabbing

A BUGATI High School student was stabbed by three knife-wielding robbers in Madang town on Saturday.
Police arrested one suspect after a tip-off that he was on a bus heading towards Gavstoa.
Commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the student, who was bleeding profusely from stabs on his back and chest, was rushed to the hospital by police.
Acting Supt Rubiang said three armed men fled with the student’s valuables and fled.
“The suspect who was caught in Gavstoa had in his possession a blood-stained knife and some of the student’s valuables,” he said.
“There is enough evidence for us to charge him.”
In another case reported at Lae Builders, a man was also wounded in his right hand and robbed of his valuables.
Acting Supt Rubiang said police had also arrested a suspected robber.
“I am appealing to parents to discipline and advice their children (youths) to stay away from crime,” he said. “The crime rate in Madang is rising.
“Petty crimes committed by school children in Madang town is increasing.”
