POLICE have arrested three men and a woman for allegedly burglarising the St Fidelis College in the north coast area in Madang on Thursday.
Commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the suspects were identified by villagers who found a string bilum tied to the food rations in a house in Midiba village.
“The college staff reported that the burglars carted away food rations comprising 17 10kg roots rice, five 10kg skel rice, some canned fish and meat, coffee, sugar and other food rations while it was raining that night,” he said.
“The college staff and community leaders led police to the arrest of the suspects.
“He said they all had been formally charged with burglary and will appear in court when investigation files are ready.
“Police had also been receiving numerous reports of such offences inside Madang town and outside.
“I want to warn those responsible to stop and work their land to earn their living. You cannot feed on what other people had earned.
“We have fertile land in the province and north coast is more fertile, so try to work on the land and find food instead of resorting to theft or crime.
“I am especially upset with this case because they stole from a church.”
