POLICE in Wewak last week arrested and charged a woman for allegedly stealing K9,900 from her employer.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said thewoman was working at Kaprai service station as a cashier when the offence was allegedly committed.
He said the matter was reported to the police by the service station’s management, resulting in the woman’s arrest.
Supt Beli said police did not locate the money but the suspect was the last person who had possession of the money before it went missing.
According to the police report, the woman after counting the money and confirming the amount with a co-worker, allegedly pretended that she had a family emergency and said she was leaving for Boram hospital.
“After she left, they found that the money that was earned that day was not in the place that it was supposed to be,” Supt Beli said.
“One of her colleagues also confirmed that they were together when they counted the money.”
The suspect was detained in the Wewak police station while the matter was being investigated.
