Resort building worth over K500,000 burns

A BUILDING belonging to the Rapopo Plantation Resort in East New Britain burnt down on Sunday afternoon.
According to information received by The National in Kokopo yesterday, the fire started in one of the guest rooms.
The standalone building which housed six rooms (three upstairs and three downstairs) was destroyed by fire between 5pm and 5.30pm.
All rooms were empty at the time of the fire.
Despite the destruction, operations at the resort carried on as normal and no one was injured in the fire.
A reliable source said the fire started after a minor earthquake hit the province on Sunday afternoon at around 4.45pm.
The course of the fire is yet to be determined with the resort’s management assisting the local fire service in its investigation.
The total cost of the destroyed building is over K500,000.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating the fire to determine whether it was an accident or intentionally started.
