Police catch 8 suspects in armed robbery case

QUICK response by police has resulted in the apprehension of eight suspects in an armed robbery at a shop at Koma, in Kokoda, Northern, on Tuesday.
Provincial Police Commander Michael Welly said the incident occurred at around 9am when the suspects, all dressed in police uniform and armed with guns entered and robbed Abau Trading.
Welly said the suspects drove a white vehicle held the shop employees and removed Digicel mobile cards, mobile phones, a quantity of gold dust and an estimated K200,000 in cash.
He said as soon as the suspect’s left, police at Kokoda called informing him of the incident.
He send out a Highway patrol and officers from the Crime Investigation Division to Kokoda.
He said the officers set up a road block and were able to apprehend the suspects, despite them having changed cars.
“The incident occurred on Tuesday morning and when I heard about the robbery I dispatched two units to Kokoda where they set up a road block and caught the robbers,” Welly said.
