EAST Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli has commended the relatives of university centre director John Gillichuku who was stabbed and killed outside of Wewak town last Friday.
Beli said Gilichuku’s relatives had lost a highly educated member of their village and he praised them for not retaliating and allowing the police to carry out an investigation into killing.
He said any retaliation by them would only hinder the investigation.
“I want the people of this province to stop the attitude of payback or taking the law into their own hands when suspects are in police custody or when police are doing the investigation in any police cases,” Beli said.
“You will only disturb the investigation process and the perpetrators will not face the full force of the law.”
He said on Tuesday, the family members of the decease presented a petition to East Sepik deputy governor David Kausik, who is also the Turubu local level government (LLG) president, to meet their demands because the suspects were from Turubu.
