A POLICE detective summoned to appear in court last week is nowhere to be seen and the prosecutor claims he is evading the summons.
Presiding magistrate Tracy Ganaii heard that Det Roman Anton, from the Gerehu police station, did not appear in the Waigani Committal Court because the summons had not been served on him.
Police Prosecutor Chief Insp Polon Koniu told the court on Friday that Det Anton had been evading the prosecution from being served the summons.
Det Anton was summoned by Magistrate Ganaii to appear in court to explain why a Filipino woman accused of acting illegally to get her son out of custody was refused bail.
Chief Insp Koniu told the court on Wednesday that although they had the summons, they were unable to serve it on Det Anton at the Gerehu station.
“We will serve it to his police station commander today (June 17) to have him appear in court (on Friday),” he said.
However, Det Anton did not appear again on Friday.
Magistrate Ganaii ordered for a substitute of service and adjourned the matter to Wednesday at 9.30am.
“Obtain an order of substitute at service of the summons at the registry and serve it to the police station,” Magistrate Ganaii told Chief Insp Koniu. Also file a proof of service,” she said.
In allowing the bail application, the magistrate also asked why the accused, Marilyn Epsolong, was refused in the first place since the alleged offence allowed for it.
Last Monday, she said no reasons were given for refusing her bail.
She further asked why Epsolong was arrested over the weekend when the warrant was issued four days earlier and the identity of the complainant.
Epsolong is alleged to have conspired with the officer-in-charge of the Juvenile Division to get her son Adam Cheah released on bail two months ago.
She was arrested on June 13, charged at the Gerehu station and later taken to the Boroko station cell where she was held overnight.Attempts to bail her were rejected.

  • Just go to the place where he lives, find him and haul him in to face the court. He has a reason, that’s why he is scared to come to court.

  • Now the police can not track down one of their own?? If he is evading appearance, than he knows he had done something wrong.

  • He is one of those corrupt officers…he probably hope to make a deal before releasing that lady on bail. He should be arrested and dismissed from the police force for good. Not appearing to court means he has something to hide.

  • I am a resident of Gerehu and I know, there are many corrupt officials here at Gerehu Police Station. There is serious disciplinary issues on most of the Officers and this Detective is really the corrupt one… The other corrupt Officer is the officer in Charge of the Fox Unit here at Gerehu… The Police hierarchy should really deal with this Gerehu Police immediately..
This detective should be dismissed from the force…. He is not discipline but Criminal…

  • Police not trying hard enough. Now serve summons on the persons responsible for serving the summons and see how fast they will find this culprit

  • A Filipino women tried to get e a release of her son through an illegal way…..deserves to be locked up under NO BAIL condition…she is already flirting with our PNG law…how does that perspective sit with us as a nation.

  • He could be one of the corrupt Police officers as you people suggest, but for this matter he may have a reason so let him explain as he is the only one qualified to have knowledge of the case and not us. in the meantime , the summons has not been served on him as yet.
