A CHURCH group has given Madang police 19 bicycles.

The Jesus Christ Loves So Pure is an international religious group operating in Mt Hagen and Madang.

The group brought a container of donated bicycles from Bikes 4 Life in Melbourne, Australia.

Police task force leader Arnold Takai thanked the group for helping police in carrying out their law and order duties in the town.

“I can now ride from my place to nearby villages to attend to reports and I thank Jesus Christ Loves So Pure and Bikes 4 Life,” an officer, who lives outside town, said.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mandy Laurens Vankleef said they had requested for 200 bikes from Bikes 4 Life and received more than 500.

They will be giving some to Youth Link and other organisations in the town and to children in settlements.

“We feel that most children living in settlements can’t afford to own a bike so we’ll be giving them these bikes and will teach them to respect and care for their bikes,” Vankleef said. She said they were expecting more bicycles from Australia.
