MOROBE police commander (PPC) Supt Alex N’Drasal has acknowledged the Huon Gulf development authority chairman and MP Ross Seymour and his administration during the launch of a fleet of 10 vehicles for assisting the provincial police command with a vehicle for the district.
N’Drasal said the Huon Gulf DDA donated the vehicle for police operations in the district and called on the province’s other MPs to support policing efforts in their districts.
“This vehicle will be used in your district to serve your people,” he said.
“It will not be engaged in policing work in Markham, Bulolo or Nawaeb but will be stationed in Huon and police personnel in the district will use this vehicle to serve the people of Huon Gulf, its administration and businesses.”
N’Drasal said police services and law enforcement provided support and confidence for other services such as health, education, community and infrastructure development and agricultural and economic activity to take place in the district.
He said maintaining law and order at the district level was vital for the growth of the province.
Seymour urged police to ensure the vehicle was used appropriately to benefit the community.
He said improving policing was part of his district’s five-year plan and a highway patrol response team would be supported to attend to law and order issues on the district’s main roads.
Seymour said his DDA would provide another vehicle as requested by N’Drasal in addition to the one presented.
“Our motto is ‘nau yet, nau yet’ (same day response),” he said.
“We can come and make commitments but honouring that commitment is the other thing.”
