THE Morobe police headquarters in Lae will be relocated to a more strategic location in Nadzab to cater for the increase in development, according to Police Commissioner Gari Baki, pictured.
He said this would also cater for the migration of people to the valley at Nadzab airport.
The relocation also enhances the partnership between police and the districts to boost police structure and the government’s plan to increase the police force strength to 10,000 by 2018.
Baki last Friday received the keys to two homes and three vehicles from the Huon Gulf MP Ross Seymour and administration executive officer Aaron Ambang to support police operations in the district. Baki said the support to police from Huon Gulf district was crucial in policing activities.
A Northern Command Mobile police squad will also be set up to cover Morobe, Madang, East Sepik and Eastern Highlands.
“Leadership means serving and providing for people’s needs; going down to their level and sit, listen, eat and sleep with the people in order to understand their issues and providing those needs” Baki said.
Seymour said there was plenty of land available in Wampar for development and police could be assisted in that regard.
