POLICE in Bulolo, Morobe, are looking for an escapee who allegedly killed an ex-convict of Buimo Prison at Watut last Tuesday.
Morobe commander Supt Jacob Singura is warning the public that the man is dangerous and should be reported to police if sighted.
Police said the suspect was an escapee from Buimo Prison and was also wanted for a string of crimes in Bulolo.
He was convicted in 2017 (police did not confirm the charge), but escaped from custody at Buimo Prison.
The suspect was on the run until he was recaptured in 2018 and was transported from Bulolo to Buimo Prison when he escaped again.
While on the run, he allegedly murdered a man at Watut outside Bulolo town.
Singura said the person murdered was an ex-convict of Buimo Prison.
He advised the escapee to surrender to police.
“The law is the only place that you can be safe. If you are still on the run and being caught by the relatives of the deceased, who knows what may happen to you?” Singura said.
He said if the police caught up with him while in hiding, then they would arrest and charge him and that might save his life.
“That is why I am appealing to the suspect to surrender quickly to police to be on the safe side.”
Singura said police suspected that the man might still be somewhere in Bulolo.
Police in Bulolo are investigating the killing and are asking the public to come forward with information.
