POLICE are looking for the hired hands who killed eight people and injured 20 more, firing on a convoy of vehicles escorted by soldiers and policemen in Wabag, Enga on Tuesday. Provincial Police Commander acting Supt Ephenes Nili told The National that relatives of the eight had identified the bodies. “We can now confirm that the eight people killed in the senseless ambush were from the Titi and Kombarau tribe in the Ambum and Lai Valley respectively,” he said.
“The relatives arrived at the police station (yesterday) morning and told us that there would not be any retaliation from them. “The families (want) the police to investigate and lay appropriate charges against the suspects. “This men, known locally as Rambos, travel across the province when there is a tribal fight, offering their service. “Once the money is exchanged, they kill people with no remorse.  “They do not care whether they are women or children.“I want all ward councillors and LLG presidents to take note: This is my warning to them. “Should they be found harbouring criminals or firearms, they will be dealt with severely.” He said he would deal with people who had no respect for the law.
He urged the people from the five districts who witness crimes to report them quickly to the nearest police station.
